Iowa Summer Writers Workshop
The real MFA with the Iowa Writers Workshop in Iowa City is apparently harder to get into than Harvard Medical, so I’m so glad their summer open-to-anyone program exists so the rest of us can get a taste of the writing life at Iowa. Even better, this year they had a few genre classes, one of which was Romance with one of my favorite authors. I’ll always remember this week as one where I grew and got tougher about accepting critique. I’ll also remember it as the occasion when I first saw “magical vagina” spelled out in six-inch high letters on a classroom chalkboard!
