My fave books I read in 2017

The ladies in my book club had the idea this year that we start doing top ten lists every December of our favorites in reading from the year. I love this idea because it gives me an excuse to think about what I read this year and which ones, after many months stowed away, still are buzzing around in my brain.

Random reading thoughts for 2017:

  1. That James Rebanks book shot out of complete nowhere to be one of my favorites of the whole year and I gave it to my dad and he loved it too. Reading back cover description, it sounds like a pretty heavy/serious book, but Rebanks has a big personality - a chip on his shoulder, maybe - and the way he talks about his life is fascinating. How does a place like his farm survive during the modern age, an era of profit-driven scale and consolidation? What will the farm mean to his kids when they're grown up? Will it survive another generation? You can tell how much he loves every blade of grass on the property.

  2. Experiencing major professional jealousy that I didn’t write the Potato Peel Pie Society book.

  3. The Water’s Edge is everything I want in a book. Will re-read.

  4. I’ve read everything Posie Graeme-Evans has ever written. Something so unique and straight up enjoyable about her stuff I can’t quite put my finger on. I think fans of Susanna Kearsley and Kate Morton should check her out, especially this one as it has two timelines.

  5. The Charlotte Bronte bio. Why hasn’t Hollywood made a really intense movie about Charlotte and her teacher?! Anybody else find that bit of her life kind of riveting? It changes so much for her.
